Movin’ On Up
March 15, 2009

Daniel is far too kind, but he’s right about one thing: for the foreseeable future, most of my blogging will be at his wonderful blog, Pensons. It’s a fantastic blog, and I’m honored to be joining Daniel, Sarah and Richard over there.

I haven’t figured out yet what that means I’ll be doing with this blog yet. I guess I’ll play it by ear.

Lieberman Might Try to Rejoin Democratic Party
March 14, 2009

I’m not entirely surprised. After all, the Connecticut for Lieberman Party is out of his hands, so his options are limited to either forming yet another party or joining the preexisting party that’s least hostile to him (the Republicans would probably welcome him with open arms, of course, but then he wouldn’t have a chance in hell in the general).

It’s going to be fun to see what happens in 2012 if he decides to run in the Democratic primary. After all, he’s already lost that primary once, and I have a feeling that it’s not going to get any easier this time around.

Jon Stewart Rips CNBC a New Asshole
March 13, 2009

To accompany all of the other ones they’ve already got on the air.

For those of you who haven’t already seen the extended version of Stewart’s interview with Jim Cramer last night, here’s the final third, and best part:

It’s hard not to agree with John Cole’s half-hearted defense of Jim Cramer. Cramer’s an easy target because he’s a buffoon, but he’s not responsible for the vast majority of what’s wrong with CNBC. He’s just a symbol, a brief cutaway on the Daily Show gag reel. And he’s only the surrogate for CNBC here because he was thin-skinned enough to make himself into it.

But Stewart does a great job of pivoting away from targeting him specifically and going after the bigger picture. His eloquence, righteous indignation and perceptiveness here go a long way towards showing why this guy’s one of my heroes for many more reasons than just his aptitude with dick jokes.

Your Republican Party
March 12, 2009

The fact that the governor of South Carolina would risk thousands of jobs of public school teachers by turning down what is essentially FREE MONEY from the federal government in order to make some stupid point about the stimulus package really goes to show you just how insane this whole debate has become. This guy’s supposed to be representing the interests of his state, and instead he’s playing games with their whole education system just for a little national prominence.

Obama to Limit Signing Statements
March 10, 2009

Good news from the White House: Not only is President Obama reviewing all of Bush’s signing statements, he’s also vowing to rarely employ them himself. If we’re very lucky, that means he’s bringing us back to a pre-Nixon interpretation of the president’s latitude on that subject.

Now about that state secrets privilege…
